It may come as a surprise that a university education is not uncommon among BASE jumpers. I have university degrees in physics and pure mathematics. That said, if conditions are right, I don't like to hold back. I wear a helmet and full body armour on almost every jump, and am not afraid to walk down if conditions aren't right. I am, for the most part, a very cautious jumper. At that point, everything becomes calm, and the world jumps into a surreal perspective. Sure, I'm scared at the exit point, but my favourite part of the jump is just after my feet have left the object. I think the "adrenaline junkie" image gets overplayed. I am an experienced BASE jumper, but by no means the most experienced-there are lots of jumpers with more jumps, and more experience, than I have. In the past decade, I've made just over 300 BASE jumps. I made 500 skydives before I started BASE jumping. I have been skydiving for 14 years, and BASE jumping for 10. BASE jumping is the activity of jumping from fixed objects (buildings, antennas, bridges, cliffs, etc.) with a packed parachute. ![]()
